Slot: I want Liverpool job and am confident deal can be done

Feyenoord manager tells his club he wants to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer

Arne Slot expects to be appointed Liverpool’s next manager after telling Feyenoord he wants to leave for Anfield next season.
The Dutch coach, 45, has told his club he wants to be Jurgen Klopp’s successor and is anticipating the two clubs will come to an agreement over compensation before a summer move to the Premier League.
Speaking before Thursday night’s match at Go Ahead Eagles, Slot said: “I’d like to become new Liverpool manager, my decisions is clear.
“Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate, I’m waiting to see what will come out of it.
“I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”
Feyenoord were playing in Deventer as they attempt to delay PSV’s charge to the Eredivisie title that Slot won last season.
Slot described himself as being “in the waiting room” over a deal being done.
He has two seasons left on his contract with the Rotterdam club, which means Liverpool will have to make a formal approach and come to an agreement over compensation as the former AZ Alkmaar coach does not have a buyout clause in his terms.
“All I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations,” Slot said.
“It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. I am now waiting to see if the clubs come to an agreement.”
Liverpool made him their No 1 choice after Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen after winning the Bundesliga title and taking them into the Champions League.
Slot was on the radar of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and Liverpool have moved swiftly to entice the Dutchman.
Making his intentions known about wanting to join Liverpool could smooth talks between the clubs now he has decided to leave De Kuip stadium.
Klopp announced in January he would be stepping down at the end of the season and Liverpool have since re-appointed Michael Edwards as chief executive of football and brought in Richard Hughes as sporting director, with a new head coach their priority.
Slot’s arrival has the backing of players, with captain Virgil van Dijk saying: “I find it hard to answer of course, but I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at this moment.
“I think the way of playing and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach.”
